Micro Business – feels like home.
We’ve been a little quiet here at Simply HQ because we’ve been taking our annual digital free fortnight. Not an easy thing to do in a world where the pressure is strong to be visible always. However, we have found it is life enhancing and allows plenty of time for some creativity.
So…what did we get up to this summer? We stayed in the UK and explored new places and micro businesses where ever we went. Bliss.
First up was a week in Yorkshire deep in the forest and not far from the sea. We loved the stunning views of the North Yorkshire Moors and beautiful stone villages plus a few giggles at the names (yes there was a Bell End Farm!). There were stunning independent shops, home made ice creams and some of the best fish we’ve eaten in a long time. Thank you to the Fish Cottage in Sandsend near Whitby.
We also had a cheeky night away at the award winning Hut in Eyam, Derbyshire. What a treat! Rachel really has created a special experience at her Shepherd’s Hut on the edge of this historic village. You might expect great views, a cosy night’s sleep and a fire pit but it was so much more than this. It was like coming home.
Think crochet blankets, flowery sheets, handpicked books, binoculars, felted, sheepskin chair seats, organic pillow mist, note books and even a kite. THEN the food experience starts….two hampers. One filled with treats – breakfast granola (to go with the fruit, yogurt, bread and home made jam), hot chocolate, marshmallows for the fire, chocolate biccies all with handmade local crockery and vintage bone handled knives. The other hamper was a celebration just for us…handmade chocolate cake courtesy of the Chatsworth Farm Shop and organic fizz in the fridge to be served in hand made glasses. On top of this, there’s the new ‘Gin Deck’ to enjoy and a choice of eateries just a walk down the hill. We loved it and will be back!
A note on the binoculars which served us well as we watched out for Tom Cruise who was filming in a disused quarry across the valley!
If I ever need reminding, this Summer has been a treasure trove of micro business discovery in Britain. It filled my heart with joy to see folks recovering and sharing experiences that we will remember for ever. They are breathing life back into bruised and grieving communities and they are doing it all with the biggest smiles I’ve seen.
Thank you micro business Britain for a lovely Summer and we pledge to repay the love by showcasing the best, offering the business support that’s needed and continuing to create the community these hard working business owners can dive into.
